New world for jobseekers
Does going to university or college in this time help you in attaining work? Over the last few years, more and more employers are seeking individuals that potentially only have a high school certificate/diploma. Many individuals are wondering whey they spend so much to go to college just to end up with lots of debt. Does that mean that as a young person in this day and age I would not go to University? I think this is a question that many individuals face in this day and age.
As long as you are young and have time to figure out your skills and abilities. Spend time learning your strengths and I don’t call them weaknesses, more so those tasks you don’t enjoy so much. How can you do that? If you have friends, ask them what they think you seem to work well with. Your parents or a guardian can also give you some ideas on what you can do because they have raised you from a younger age. One thing I would advice any young person though is that don’t think that just because you have decided that you will become a software engineer or nurse that you are stuck in that career. We are living in a time when technology is part and parcel of our lives. It’s important not only to understand how to use it but also know how to work with it.
When you get online, be careful. How are you presenting yourself? are you potentially jeopardizing your chances of being selected for an opportunity. Are you doing other things to build up your skills or do you spend time watching endless movies? There was a time when smartphones did not occupy people’s lives on a daily basis. Take the time to know people on a face to face basis not just through technology. This is a skill that you should not take for granted no matter how introverted you are.
2020 has been a challenging year for many people and it has been a time for people to reflect on themselves. Have you taken the time to be more helpful to others? Over the last few years, individuals have been indulging in everything that you can imagine. As it seems, the pandemic will not disappear anytime soon but what skills will you come out with in this tough season. Have you been upgrading your skills. There have been so many institutions offering free courses online, have you been taking them?
What projects have you undertaken that can make you stand out from the crowd. It’s not the big things that will have an impact on us as individuals but the little things that we develop. Everyday, make it a habit to do one or two things that can help you reach your goal. Do you have a daily planner? If you don’t have one, I would advice that you get one as soon as possible. It’s important to plan out your day, as you become more focused and productive and these sort of skills will be important for the future.
It’s vital to make sure that you keep developing yourself and know that even though it is time consuming, patience is a virtue. Use your time wisely, after all some of the opportunities that you have now may not be available in future. This is just the beginning and there’s more to come here.
In conclusion, in the future the main areas that will be important for anyone seeking work is that you need to be extremely competent in using technology and you must learn how to develop relationships. It’s also important to be familiar with the skills you excel at.
